Irondequoit, N.Y. — .The town of Irondequoit has been listed as one of the top three places to live in New York State on Business Week magazine’s ranking of “the best places to raise your kids.” The rankings were released on the magazine’s Web site Nov. 17.

The Buffalo suburb of Tonawanda ranked as the best place in the state, with Irondequoit and another Buffalo suburb, Cheektowaga, listed as runners-up.

According to its Web site, BusinessWeek worked with OnBoard Informatics, a New York-based provider of real estate analysis, to select a winner and two runners-up for each state in the nation.

Selections were made from among towns with at least 45,000 residents and a median income of between $40,000 and $125,000.

Criteria reviewed as part of the index included school performance, number of schools, household expenditures, crime rates, air quality, job growth, family income, museums, parks, theaters, other amenities, and diversity.
